With a evening trip to the DDCR (Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve) I decided to practice my flashed assisted macro photography in the garden. My previous attempts at flash assisted macro work had ended with mixed results. I was hoping by practicing in the field I would have a better understanding for the night to come.

Walking out in the garden I saw a hedgehog (an Ethiopian Hedgehog (Paraechinus aethiopicus) to be precise) foraging in the grass beneath the palm trees. My heart dropped, in all my years in the desert I had never seen a hedgehog. Lying down I proceed to take photographs. After two hours of watching and photographing I decided to call it a night.
